The Organization
Mother Terasa Educational Trust (MET) was founded by Mr. P. RAMAR, a social activist with the vision to promote the deprived section of the community with the balanced Socio-Economic status, enable child rights, life security, self esteem and better health and nutrition status. MET was registered on 22nd April 2008 with 5 trustees in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.
We have been working from MET’s inception since 2008 for child rights and development, education, environment, health and safety, rural livelihood and economic education. From the year 2008 to 2013, we have focused on children education, rights awareness, environment education, Tree plantation, youth development activities such as coaching center for competitive exams, self employment programs, women development programs on awareness generation, employment generation programs such as tailoring, Palmyra based handicraft making etc. From 2014, MET started running ‘Shelter for Homeless’ with 90 residents jointly with Madurai corporation with the support of National Urban Livelihood Mission, NULM, GoI. The shelter provides accommodation, food and refreshments for 3 times, protected water, better cloths, medical services, yoga, entertainment facilities and security services for the destitute urban poor.
We also have our own nursery garden maintained by the residence of Shelter for Homeless’ as their hoppy and supplying tree plants at free of cost for the visitors, local donors/sponsors, well wishers and school and college students. This nursery bridges the local supporters with the shelter residence and also support for green cover. We have been supporting poor children providing basic educational aids, women street vendors of Madurai city by providing livelihood aids such as umbrella, stand and cart, Visually impaired by providing basic livelihood aids and other differently abled by providing basic welfare aids as the regular activity every year. .
Currently with the support from CSR activities of ‘Welspun Foundation for Health and Knowledge’ (WFHK), we are conducting series of 1035 training /awareness program in 15 villages of Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu state and Karaikal district of Pudhucherry State. The program covers the areas such as Education, Health and nutrition, First aid, Behavior Change Communication Programs (BCC), Livelihood promotion and Road safety. The program is an initiative for the most deprived communities living along its operational area for sustainable development practices in future.
