The Organization

Mother Terasa Educational Trust (MET) was founded by Mr. P. RAMAR, a social activist with the vision to promote the deprived section of the community with the balanced Socio-Economic status, enabled child rights, life security, self esteem and better health and nutrition status.

MET was registered on 22nd April 2008 with 5 trustees in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. We have been working for child rights & development, education, environment, health & nutrition, road safety, rural livelihood and economic education. During 2008 to 2013, we have focused on children education, rights awareness, environment education, tree plantation, youth development activities such as coaching center for competitive exams, self employment programs, women development programs on awareness generation, employment generation programs such as tailoring, Palmyra based handicraft making etc. From 2014, MET started running ‘Shelter for Homeless’ with 90 residents jointly with Madurai corporation under the support of National Urban Livelihood Mission, NULM, GoI. The shelter provides accommodation, food and refreshments for 3 times, protected water, better cloths, medical services, yoga, entertainment facilities and security services for the destitute urban poor.

We also have our own nursery garden maintained by the residence of Shelter for Homeless’ as their hoppy and supplying tree plants at free of cost for the visitors, local donors/sponsors, local institutions such as schools and colleges.  This nursery bridges the local supporters with the shelter residence and also support for green cover. We have been supporting poor children providing basic educational aids, women street vendors of Madurai city by providing livelihood aids such as umbrella, stand and cart, Visually impaired by providing basic livelihood aids and other differently abled by providing basic welfare aids as the regular charitable activities every year.

We started receiving CSR funds from the year 2024, ‘Welspun Foundation for Health and Knowledge’ (WFHK) as  the first CSR fund to our organization, we were conducting series of 1035 training /awareness program in 15 villages of Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu state and Karaikal district of Pudhucherry State. The program covered the areas such as Education, Health & nutrition, First aid, Behavior Change Communication Programs (BCC), Livelihood promotion and Road safety. The program was an initiative for the most deprived fishing communities living along the 3 coastal districts.

During the financial year 2025-26, We have initiated coastal based livelihood program to the most vulnerable fisher women by organizing them into producer company namely “Angelo Zone Sea Foods Producer Company Limited” with the CSR support of THOUGHTWORKS INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, BANGALORE. Our Angelo Zone Sea Foods Producer Company Limited is properly registered under MCA with other essential legal registrations.  The company initially included 40 coastal women beneficiaries, erected a solar dry fish unit, given onsite technical training to produce hygienic premium quality dry fishes.  The project completed the trail production to ensure the premium quality through developed SoP and trail marketing is underway by introducing first time in the 2 super malls in Sivakasi town of Tamil Nadu State.  We are currently recording the customer preference on quality and pricing with the aspirations to expand the market through appropriate marketing channels both online and offline.  We believe this successful interventions will pave ways for business expansion and provide employment to thousands of deprived local coastal women with joint ownership rights to each women beneficiary.

THE FOUNDER

Mr. P. RAMAR was born and brought up from poor family belongs to lowest social strata living in a remote village. From his childhood he had suppressed and depressed due to poverty and various social phenomena. He has thirst to contribute for he socio economic development by his best efforts. With his courage, coping tendency and confidence he had completed his 2 post graduates, bachelor of Education and bachelor degree in divinity. He love children and enjoy helping others even he is struggling hard for his life needs. His personal concept is helping the poor to fish their fish instead of giving fish. He has thirst to contribute for the socio economic.
