ON GOING PROGRAM

BCC – Behavior Change Communication  

MET conducts BCC programs for 2500 beneficiaries in 5 sponsored villages of Mayiladuthurai district with aim to enhance their health and nutrition status.  The program selected 500 beneficiaries in each village where Akkur, Mamakudi, Thalachankadu, Keelaperumpallam and Melaperumpallam are 5 sponsoring villages.  The beneficiaries are grouped 25 members of each and thus 20 groups per villages and total 5 villages having 100 groups totally.  Each group have been given awareness trainings in 4 subjects such as  Nutrition, Menstrual Hygienic, RTI-STI (Respiratory Tract Infection – Sexual Transmitted Infection), and Brest Cancer.  About 400 training programs scheduled and conducted for 100 groups in 5 villages with the support of our eminent resource persons and guidance of the supporting agency.   

Facilitating Linkage with the Government Schemes  

The poor people in villages of our operational districts Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal and Nagapattinam having poor knowledge over the eligible Government schemes and they have no proper guidance to access the same.  Hence MET is facilitating and guiding people to access various benefits under Tamil Nadu Unorganized Welfare Board and also link the benefits of government sponsored insurance schemes such as Ayushman card, PMJDY and PMJJBY etc. 

Entrepreneurship Development Trainings (EDP) 

MET has been conducting regular EDP training programs in its 15 working villages of 3 operational districts with the target of 100 beneficiaries each year.  The program longs for 5 days training in 3 batches covering from registration of enterprises to successful running and marketing their goods and services.  The beneficiaries underwent EDP are guided to access relevant credit linkages under KVIC subsidy schemes.   

Eye Camps 

Drivers need to care and treat their eyes periodically to avoid valuable life losses and disablements.   Hence MET is running regular eye camp program exclusively for the drivers.  With the target of 1000 drivers in 3 operational districts organizing eye camp along with RTI-STI test coordinating with the relevant local GHs. 

Road safety awareness for school children

MET conducts 12 road safety programs for 150 to 200 school
children studying 6th to 12th standard
every year with aim to
accident free school accessible roads. 

Employment Fair

MET with the aim to provide employment opportunity to the rural youth conducts 5 Employment Fair coordinating with the District Employment office and Private companies hiring employees with the target of linking at least 100 employments in a year.

First Aid Program

In order to save the lives during accident and severe health issues, MET is making awareness and giving training to College and polytechnic students on First Aid practices with the target of 12 training programs to youth beneficiaries of each batch.

Road Safety Rally

Tamil Nadu is one among state with high accident rate where more number of youths are being victims. In order to prevent the road accidents and enhance the safety awareness, MET is conducting regular Road Safety Rally involving at least 150 students from local colleges and polytechnics with orientation and guidance of the local Traffic Inspector.

Road Safety Ratham 

With the aim to effectively generate awareness among the general public on road safety, MET conducts a program of ‘Road Safety Ratham’. An vehicle holding display road safety awareness messages, PA system for voice awareness , distributing the awareness notices and street play/cultural drama will be involved in this program for effective reach and result.

FM live telecast about the road safety 

Live FM programs are effectively reaching people by its advance programs interfacing its audience. Using this advantage MET is conducting 5 FM programs on road safety through All India Radio Karaikal FM-100.3 which is reaching more than 5 Lakh audiences every day.

Soft Skill and Spoken English Training

Focus Awareness Drive (FAD)

MET is conducting interesting programs for nutrition awareness with the aim to make them aware of locally available nutritional resources. The FAD programs are conducted in 5 sponsored villages of Mayiladuthurai district with the target of 50 participants per village. The participants involve in preparation of creative nutritional food items using locally available food sources. This competition makes the people think over the value of local nutritional sources and how to make use of them. The participants having chances to win surprising prizes at the end.

General Health Camp and Counseling

MET organizes General Health camp and counseling programs in its sponsoring villages of Mayiladuthurai district with the aim to enhancing local community health and earlier identification referral against severe health issues.

Youth Learning Centers

MET has initiated a Youth Learning Center in
Melaperumpallam village of
Mayiladuthurai with the facilities of books,
furnished reading rooms and a guide to prepare
for competitive exams in order ensue
their better jobs in future

Special Day Celebrations 

MET celebrates Gender Equality Day, International Yoga Day, Children day,
International Girl Child Day, International Cancer day, World Environment day,
World Nutrition day,The International day of Person with disability,
International day for Older Persons,International day for conservation of the Mangrove Eco system,
etc with the community and staff contributing for ideal social development.

Costal Line Palmyra Tree Plantation Initiative 

Palmyra is a treasures tree having all parts is potentially usable and able to create greater economy and ascertaining the livelihood of local people. The hidden fact that most local people don’t know is this tree is able to sink huge amount of carbon towards controlling climate change and enhance clean environment. It is more important in coastal line because the tree in coastal line is 20% more efficient to control carbon than inland Palmyra trees. The most significant fact is the trees in coastal line became barrier for all coastal based disaster like storm, Tsunami etc on protecting many lives and properties. A feasibility survey is under process on framing planting strategies with local people participation.

Propagation of Mangrove Forest Program-Climate Change and Biodiversity 

MET conducted expert consultation and feasibility survey on mangrove forest propagation at Uppanar river estuaries at Tharangambadi. It has been developed a comprehensive project report for mangrove propagation with local people participation to initiate mangrove nursery as the first phase and various support programs from next financial year have been planned.

Staff Training

The knowledge and skill of the staff decides the quality of the program towards result orientation where MET organizes staff training sessions during every staff meetings on current programs. Designated capacity building programs are conducted during initiation new projects to gather knowledge and skill on implementation strategies. Training on mangrove forest propagation procedures, Training on RTI and STI program management
Training on organizing different strategies of Road Safety programs, Behavior Change Communication (BCC) programs for health and nutrition and Costal line Palmyra plantation strategies are few ongoing capacity building programs.

Sponsor Village Get Together

With the aim to create solidarity and harmony among the all our sponsor village we have been conducting Get together programs in each village by inviting all the Key important people, youths, women and children for common gathering and celebrations with sports, dance, storytelling, speech contest, personal performance on their own talents, distribution of prize to all participants and the programs ends with Tea and snacks

Shelter For Homeless Urban Poor, Madurai

MET team proud to maintaining India’s first shelter for urban poor homeless, destitute elders and women from most deprived and vulnerable background. India’s first initiated shelter for Homeless Urban poor since 2011 at Gandhipuram Madurai.

The shelter caters 45 residences best accommodation with all amenities including good living room with neat beds, clean washrooms, halls and entertainment areas. Urban poor, destitute elders and orphan women are living in the home with safe and healthy. Every residence has been treated with dignity and respective manner. Every day they enjoy good food, tea/snacks, well clothing and entertainment facilities like watching TV, playing games, reading news paper/books, hearing FM radio etc. They also privileged to maintain garden, walking with their friends in the clean environment.

The regular general medical checkups happening twice a month and treatments are at free of cost. Yoga and chat along with their peer groups and friends make them healthy and stress free.The friendly environment and kind care and support lead them to live peaceful and happy life in our shelter. We thank for NULM program, GOI and our sponsors/well wishers for the sustainable support.

Running Nursery Garden For Free Suppy of Trees

We also have our own nursery garden maintained by the residence of Shelter for Homeless’ as their hoppy and supplying tree plants at free of cost for the visitors, local donors/sponsors, well wishers and school and college students. This nursery bridges the local supporters with the shelter residence and also support for green cover.

Education Aid to Children of Poor and Vulnerable

MET has been supporting the children of poor and vulnerable families for their education by providing educational materials, school bags and uniforms and college fees in order to access quality education. This program is a regular one by selecting the children who are from voiceless community and having enthusiasm for self development.
